The Cape Girardeau County Commission has voted to increase security at the county's courthouses.

The commission voted Thursday to hire two more sheriff's deputies to help monitor court facilities at Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

Sheriff John Jordan says judges who serve in the courts had approached him about hiring security guards. Jordan says no new personnel have been hired by the sheriff's office since 2007.

The Southeast Missourian reports commissioners approved a proposal to pay a total of about $85,000 a year for two new officers. All officers in the patrol division will rotate in and out of courthouse security duty.
