The candidates for governor are disagreeing over how and when Illinois' minimum wage should be increased.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn said during a debate Tuesday he wants to raise the wage from $8.25 to $10 per hour by Jan. 1.

Republican Bruce Rauner says Quinn has had six years in office and a Democrat-controlled Legislature and could have increased the wage if he wanted to. He's accusing Quinn of playing "political football.''

Quinn says he expects voters to support a non-binding question about an increase on the Nov. 4 ballot. He says after that he'll go to Springfield and 4get the job done.''

Rauner pledged he'll support an increase if pro-business reforms occur so businesses can afford higher payroll. He wants lower taxes and worker's compensation and tort reform.
