The food drive is a friendly competition among Kentucky counties and their local officials across the state to raise resources for food banks before the holidays. Last year's competition raised the equivalent of approximately 250,000 pounds of food.
The campaign will run through October 26. The partners' goal is to raise 160,000 pounds of food or $20,000. Every dollar raised is equivalent to eight pounds of food.
"The Commonwealth of Kentucky Bowl will help put food on the table for the thousands of Kentuckians who don't always know where their meals are coming from," said Tamara Sandberg, executive director of the Kentucky Association of Food Banks. "We are grateful to Secretary Grimes and KACo for leading this effort and honored to partner with them in the fight against hunger in Kentucky."
