At a Friday press conference, Beshear confirmed the case, which is in Lexington. The infected person is in isolation at a medical facility.
"While the overall threat to Kentuckians is still low, we as a state are going to take every necessary action to protect our people." Beshear continued, "To our Kentucky families out there that are nervous, this is what we've been preparing for, and we are ready. There is no need to panic."
Beshear also announced he has declared a state of emergency so that they had every tool they need to address the issue. He also mentioned the activation of the Emergency Operation Center at level four, the lowest level. Officials are also repurposing the poison control unit hotline for any members of the public that are concerned.
He continued by saying that since we have experienced the first case, we should expect other confirmed cases at some point and reinforced the importance of good hygiene.
