Federal housing officials have awarded grants aimed at helping Kentuckians with their housing needs and preventing foreclosures.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says the $241,866 in grants will support five housing counseling organizations in Kentucky.

The federal agency says the bulk of the money _ $195,558 _ will go to the Kentucky Housing Corp.

It says two groups in Bowling Green will receive a portion of the grant money, as will programs in the communities of Campbellsville and Gray.

HUD says the housing counseling grants will help people make more informed housing choices or help people keep their current homes.

It says regional agencies distribute much of the grant funding to community-based organizations that assist low- and moderate-income families to improve their housing conditions.
