KY Initiative Helps Soldiers with Substance Abuse
By AP
FRANKFORT, KY - A team of military and health care professionals have been charged with finding better ways to help military service members, veterans and their families with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Governor Steve Beshear announced the initiative on Wednesday, saying the state needs to be ready with resources to help those who have sacrificed so much.

The Kentucky team, which includes Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs Executive Director David Thompson, will work with officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Thomas will join the Kentucky National Guard's Maj. Gen. Edward Tonini and others to review what has worked elsewhere to find strategies that show the most promise for helping Kentucky soldiers and veterans.
