Kentucky has reported a slight uptick in positive cases after four days of lower rates.

Beshear reported 619 new virus cases statewide, up from 522 and 532 cases the previous two days. The total number of cases in Kentucky sits at 28,727. He noted that 17 of the new cases were from children that were five or younger

The state’s positivity rate rose after dropping the prior four days. That rate reflects the average number of tests coming back positive for COVID-19.

The state also posted five more virus-related deaths, raising the death toll to 724 since the pandemic began. This includes an 82-year-old man from Graves County, and a 71-year-old man from McCracken County.

At least 7,495 Kentuckians have recovered, although that number is most likely low since not all health departments report recoveries.

Additionally, Beshear provided an update on unemployment insurance. He says that in-person unemployment insurance services will begin taking place in Louisville from August 3 until August 7. Any Kentuckian wishing to take part must register online at the link below.
