Medicaid Provider Reverses Drug Decision

An addiction treatment company that had threatened to sue over a Medicaid provider's decision not to continue paying for an expensive medication that helps drug addicts
says the provider has reversed the move. 

Attorney Anna Whites told the Lexington Herald-Leader she was notified Monday by lawyers for Medicaid provider Coventry Cares that it will continue to pay for Suboxone. Whites represents SelfRefind, which operates addiction treatment centers in Kentucky.     

Suboxone is often given to opioid addicts who are dependent on drugs such as OxyContin and Vicodin. Coventry last week notified patients who receive Suboxone that it wouldn't pay for treatment after the patient's current prescription expired.
