National Reductions Could Impact KY National Guard

Potential reductions in the National Guard's ranks across the nation could negatively impact the work of the Kentucky National Guard. Proposed reductions before Congress would drop the number of Guard members by 15,000 to 335,000.  
 
The proposed cuts to the Guard in fiscal 2015 are just part of the Pentagon's efforts to reconfigure itself for the future.  
 
The exact impact on Kentucky 8500 Guardsmen is not known, but an across the board reduction could be detrimental to individual units in the state. There are Guard units in eveery zip code in Kentucky.  
 
Reduced numbers could impact the National Guard's ability to respond to disasters at home or deploy where its specialized work is needed around the world.
