Born April 26, 1939, in Murray, KY, he was the only child of the late Gobel and Lucille (Erwin) Cooper. Gary had a long career in Public Health for the State of Kentucky and also served in the United States Army Reserves for 38 years, retiring as a Colonel. He had a Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State University and a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan. He was an active member of South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and loved serving through numerous mission trips in both the US and abroad.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Geneva Lee (Jackson) Cooper. He is survived by his son, David Cooper and his wife, DeAnn; granddaughter, Katie Niles and her husband Isaac; grandson, Zachary Cooper; and great-grandchildren, Zoë, Liam, and Ivy Niles, all of Oklahoma City, OK.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 5671 Crossland Road, Hazel, KY 42049, on Friday, June 27, 2025. A brief visitation will begin at 3:30 pm, with funeral at 4:00 pm, and burial to follow at the church cemetery.
