Danny Owen Washburn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Danny Owen Washburn, 79 of Benton, Kentucky, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend. He passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, after a brief illness with cancer. Danny was born on March 11, 1947, and lived a life defined by love for his family, service to his country, and most of all his love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Danny married the love of his life, Glenda Washburn, in 1967, beginning a marriage filled with love, commitment, and cherished memories. Together they built a family that became the center of Danny's life and greatest source of pride.

A proud patriot, Danny honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He carried the values of duty, courage, and service throughout his life and remained proud of his military service.

Danny owned Danny’s Used Cars in Briensburg and always had a passion for cars. Especially old cars and he always wanted his trucks to have chrome wheels and a pair of fuzzy dice hanging on the rearview mirror.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 59 years, Glenda Washburn of Benton, Kentucky; his daughter, Rhonda Owens of Benton, Kentucky; and his son, Douglas Washburn of Benton, Kentucky.

Danny was a proud grandfather to Hannah Lewis (Bart), Hunter Owens, Chelsea Long (Shane), and Ellie Grace Washburn. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy: Paisley and Millie Long, and Andie and Brynn Grace Lewis. He is further survived by his sister, Sheila Collins (Stanley), along with several beloved nieces and nephews.

Danny was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wayne and Bulah Washburn of Benton, Kentucky; his sister, Rebecca Henson; and his brothers, Weldon Washburn and Steven Dale Washburn.

Danny will be remembered for his strength of character, love of God, unwavering devotion to his family, kind heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Whether spending time with family, sharing stories and laughter, or reflecting on his years of military service, he leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and faithfulness that will live on through the generations that follow.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the memories they shared and in knowing that his legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family extends their gratitude to all who have offered their prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time. Danny's memory will forever remain a treasured blessing to those he leaves behind.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Collier Funeral Home with Bill Rowley officiating. Military rights and burial will follow at McNatt Cemetery.

The visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Monday, August 3, 2025 at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street Benton, KY 42025.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to God's Promises, 1300 Poplar Street, Benton, KY 42025.
