“Doc” Abram G. Allen, Jr., DVM, a cherished member of the Reidland community and a dedicated veterinarian, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 99 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY. He was born on June 23, 1925, in McCracken County, KY, to the late Abram G. and Virginia Kelley Allen. Doc Allen lived a life marked by service, commitment, and passion for both his profession and his community.

A patriot at heart, Doc Allen served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating the same sense of duty and resilience that he carried throughout his life. Through the use of his Army G.I. Bill, Doc Allen’s journey in veterinary medicine began his undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky, followed by his distinction as part of the first graduating class of College of Veterinary Medicine from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now known as Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

After graduating, he continued to serve his community as a 69-year member of the Reidland United Methodist Church, where he was also a member of the Methodist Men. His faith and his church were cornerstones of his life, providing him with strength and fellowship. His career at the Reidland Veterinary Clinic spanned an impressive 61 years, during which he provided compassionate care to countless animals and support to their owners. His dedication to his work and his profound impact on animal health will be remembered by all who knew him.

Doc Allen’s leadership extended to his involvement with the founding of the Reidland Water & Sewer District. He was a member of the Reidland Lions Club, where he served numerous years and as Past-President. His commitment to service was evident in his efforts to improve the lives of others through the club’s various initiatives. His community spirit was infectious, and he inspired many to join him in making a difference. His service extended beyond the local area and served as Past President of the KY Veterinary Medical Association as well. An avid outdoorsman, Doc Allen found joy in the simplicity of nature. He relished the time spent traveling, camping, fishing, and hunting. These activities not only provided him with relaxation and reflection but also allowed him to forge lasting friendships and share his love for the great outdoors with others. After long days, Doc also spent hours in his study working on his book Truth Eternal and the Adversity of Diversity Law: A Simple Philosophy of Truth.

Doc is survived by his three sons, Abram (Mona) Allen III of Paducah, Chris Darrell Allen of Murray, KY, and Cary Don (Amy) Allen of Paducah; his five grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Gohmann, Dustin Garner, Nigel Allen, Grant Allen, and Parker Allen.
