Dorothy Rose Johnson, 94, of Arnold, MO, formerly of Ballard County, KY, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 23, 2024, at her daughter, Sarah Vanette Johnston’s home, where she has resided since 2008.
Dorothy was born on May 30, 1929 in Jackson, MI to Rudy O. and Evangieleen Crain Whitlow during the Depression, but grew up in Bandana, KY, and spent many of her years in St. Louis, MO, Memphis, TN, and Kevil, KY. As a child and for many years as an adult, she was a Bandana United Methodist Church member.
Dorothy birthed six children but was a devoted mother to nine; Murry Raines (Pat), Karen Miller (Gene), Melinda Murr (Mason), Vanette Johnston (Terry), Tammy Handley (Eugene), Tim Johnson (Shonnie), and was a mother to Kevin Johnson (Sharon), Heather O’Neal and (ex) son-in-law Rick Heinemann who assisted greatly in her care in her final years. She was also known as grandma to 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and her niece Gina Whitlow.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas G. Johnson, her children; daughter Karen (Raines) Miller and son-in-law, Gene Miller; Timothy Johnson, daughter-in-law, Shonnie Johnson, son-in laws James Doyle and Terry C. Johnston, and grandchildren Nicole Doyle, Renee Johnson, and Michael Johnson; and her brother Rudy Whitlow.
Services for Dorothy Rose (Whitlow) Johnson, will be at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Ballard County, KY. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 12:00 PM until the service hour of 1:00 PM at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
