Sgt. Ross Swaney, age 77, of Columbus, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at his residence.

 

Ross was born in Joliet, Illinois, on February 24, 1947, to the late Gordon L. Swaney and Marion Pelton Swaney. He was a member of Columbus Baptist Church for two years and was a Vietnam veteran who served for over 30 years as a helicopter gunner in the United States Army. He loved old cars and was fascinated by anything related to the United States military.

 

Ross is survived by two daughters, Gina Kramer (Bruce) of Stering, Massachusetts and Tina Black (Larry) of Petersburg, Florida; a son, William Swaney of Ridge Field, Connecticut; two stepdaughters, Marsha Lynn Wilkening of Aurora, Illinois, and Ellen Louise Bullard of Bardwell; two stepsons, Paul Allen Kringle of Columbus, Kentucky, and D’Wayne Bullard (Rebecca) of Oxford, Mississippi; two sisters, Joyce Hagerty of Columbus, Kentucky and Rose Hagerty of Kingman, Arizona; a brother, Johnny Swaney; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 18 years, Mary Nell “Mack” Swaney; a sister, Geroldine Swaney; two brothers, Gordon Swaney and Arnold Swaney; and his parents.

 

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington with Bro. David Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in Columbus, Kentucky.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the service time of 12:00 PM at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington.
