Clora Almeda Bagwell Hixon, was born on February 8, 1930, in Clarksville, Tennessee, the daughter of J.C. and Bessie Neblett Bagwell. On Monday, April 28, 2025, She peacefully surrendered her final breath surrounded by family and loving friends. At the time of her passing, Clora, affectionately known to many as “Clo” had acquired 95 years, 2 months and 20 days of life.

Clo graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville in 1947 and then continued her education at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951 majoring in Home Economics.

Clo was never one to rest on her laurels. She had a very extensive career in education. She taught kindergarten as well as a sewing class for high school students at Rosary Chapel School for several years in the late 1950s. She was also a substitute teacher in the Paducah Public School System and head teacher for the Paducah-McCracken County Child Development Center. In 1967 she began teaching tailoring classes at West Kentucky State Vocational Technical School and remained there until 1983 when she retired. For several years she worked in alterations at Hess’s in Kentucky Oaks Mall.

She was very active in both her church and her community. She was a member of Rosary Chapel and served on many church ministries. She was a charter member of the Paducah Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and a life member of the Paducah-McCracken County chapter of NAACP. For her excellence in service to others she received a Kentucky Colonel award, named a Duchess of Paducah, Educator of the Year from the NAACP, and received a certificate of appreciation from West Kentucky State Vocational Technical School. She was a past member of AMVETS Post 56 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She was married to the late Curtis Hixon, Sr., the love of her life, until he passed in 1997. From their union they were blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter.

Clo was a soft spoken woman whose words carried much wisdom and weight. She was the kindest and most thoughtful person you would ever want to meet. Even-tempered and loving, she lived by the Golden Rule “do unto others as you would have done to you.” However, she was very particular when it came to sports. She loved the Kansas City Chiefs and basketball’s Steph Curry could do no wrong!

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of 46 years, Curtis Hixon, Sr., her daughter, Christie Hixon-Patterson, and one son, Carlos Hixon.

Left behind to cherish all those sweet memories of a wonderfully remarkable woman are her two sons, Curtis (Carol) Hixon, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and Conrad (Patricia) Hixon of Paducah, Kentucky; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, one cousin, Percenia Edith Neblett Johnson of Pennsylvania; her caregiver for seven years, Diane Bailey, and her sisters of Paducah Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc.
