Mr. Johnny Dexter McDougal, age 85, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray.
Mr. McDougal was born on June 16, 1940, in Stewart County, Tennessee to the late Eddy “Euin” McDougal and Thelma (Dill) McDougal. He retired as the Director of Student Financial Aid after 30 years of service at Murray State University. Mr. McDougal was a veteran in the United States Army National Guard. He was a former member of the Murray Lions Club and was a gourd crafter in his spare time. Mr. McDougal was a former Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Sunday School Teacher at Locust Grove Baptist Church where he was a member since 1952. In addition to his family, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling with his wife of 63 years, genealogy, theological studies, and mentoring many young adults.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bruce McDougal; as well as one sister, Jean McMillin.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Trevathan) McDougal of Murray, Kentucky; one daughter, Mitzi (McDougal) Burress and husband John of Murray, Kentucky; one son, John Mark McDougal and wife Chris of Franklin, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Tyler Burress of Murray, Kentucky, Sam McDougal and wife Madeline of Richardson, Texas, Brittany (Burress) Wiggins and husband Heath of Sedalia, Kentucky, and Caroline McDougal of Nashville, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Remi and Raelyn Wiggins both of Sedalia, Kentucky; as well as his sister-in-law, Hilda Cunningham of Murray, Kentucky.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Tim Rhodes officiating the funeral service and Bro. Randy McClure officiating the committal service. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
