Carolyn Elizabeth Byas

Paducah
Paducah

Carolyn Elizabeth Byas was born to the union of the late George Waldon and Alberta Howell Waldon on June 2, 1943, in West Paducah, Kentucky.  She left this earthly life for eternal rest on Friday, July 3, 2020, 7:08 a.m., from Baptist Health of Paducah, Kentucky.

Carolyn was a faithful member of Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries where she served on both the Mother’s Board and the Culinary Arts Committee.  She was a graduate of the former Lincoln High School and received certification in Culinary Arts from the former West Kentucky Vocational School.  Carolyn carried her culinary skills to the Paducah City Board of Education and became employed in food services for 31 years before her retirement.

Although Carolyn was a loving and caring woman, she always said what was on her mind.  She thoroughly loved her children and grandchildren.  She extended her family to neighborhood children whom she loved and cared for as her own, thus becoming known as the “Community Lover”; everybody loved her and would flock to her whenever she was around.  Carolyn was quite fond of playing bingo and her favorite card game, tonk, with her card buddies.  She was well-known for her fried chicken and her turnip greens.  Carolyn even took time to celebrate and decorate for her favorite holidays.

She is survived by One Son, James Lynn Byas, Paducah, KY; Two Daughters, Shelia (Bravies) Morrison, Metropolis, IL and Doris (John) Fitzgerald, Paducah, KY; One Brother, Arthur Lee (Sherona) Waldon, Paducah, KY; Several Nieces, including Lisa (Charles) Welch, Paducah, KY, Nephews, Cousins, and a Wide Circle of Friends.

Carolyn was also preceded in death by four brothers, Richard Waldon, Joe Waldon, William Waldon, and Charles Waldon and three sisters, Mary Woods, Phyllis Faulkner, and Gertie Mae Brewer.

A funeral service has been scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 12:00 NOON, at Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries with Reverend Dr. Thaddyeus W. Thompson, Sr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Due to state mandated Covid-19 restrictions, all are asked to wear a mask and gloves to the facility.
