Dr. John C. Homer, 92 of Benton, KY died on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at The Lakes of Paducah Assisted Living in Paducah, KY.
Mr. Homer was a dentist, owning his own dental practice in Highland, IN untli he moved to KY in 1976. He graduated from Purdue University Dental School in June 1952.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in WWII, was an AirForce Captain, and Colonel in the Army Dental Corp.
Surviving are his nieces, Susan Thomas husband Doug of Benton, KY, Cindy Kay Watkins husband Benny of Benton, KY; sisters, Pauline Floyd of Utah, Rae Gosewisch of North Carolina; 2 great nieces, 2 great nephews, 2 great great nieces and two great great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judi (Cole) Homer and his parents.
John and his wife Judi traveled the world during their marriage. They owned a farm in Iuka, KY where they established Fox Fire Vineyards,
growing grapes and making wine for many years.
He was a member of the American Wine Society and was appointed to the Kentucky Grape industry Advisory Committee in 1991 and served in that capacity until 1999.
They enjoyed boating and had a yacht, sailboat, and pontoon through the years. John was Commodore of the Three Rivers Yacht Club 1972-1973 and Commadore of Paris Landing Yacht Club in 1990.
He also owned and flew his own Comanche plane for many years. He and Judi were involved in the Comanche plane club where he served as Chief of the North Central Tribe. In their spare time they enjoyed traveling the world.
A graveside service will be at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Cole Cemetery.
Interment will follow in Cole Cemetery, Benton, KY.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St, Benton, KY.
