Mr. Luna Norris Wilson, Jr.,age 77 of Gilbertsville, KY passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.

Born Monday, June 30, 1941 in Lexington, KY, he was the son of the late Luna Norris Wilson, Sr. and the late Artie (Newland) Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a District Manager with ABC Liquors in Tampa, FL and retired as foreman with Flame Metals Processing Corporation, St. Louis Park Plant, St. Louis Park, MN. He served as a SSgt in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 until 1968. He honorably served his country in 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.

He grew up in Bourbon County, KY, and attended and graduated from Bourbon County High School where classmates knew him only as "Norris" while family and relatives knew him by his nickname, "Doodlebug." According to his sons, their dad like to draw and "Doodle" cartoon characters to amuse them as children.

One epic adventure Luna Wilson Jr. took his family on was a long trip in a refurbished van to travel and sightsee from Tacoma, WA, where they lived briefly. Luna and his family traveled all the way up to the Yukon in Canada, then all the way down to the Yucatán and on to Florida where they resettled.

Luna enjoyed traveling and took his family to visit many national parks from Yellowstone to the Redwoods to Death Valley to the Smokey Mountains. His other hobbies were coin collecting, rock polishing, arrowhead collecting and genealogy and astronomy.

One of Luna's and his son's favorite vacation destination was Las Vegas, and during his retirement he enjoyed playing online poker using the WPT subscription service for Poker Enthusiasts.

While in the Marine Corp, Luna served on the Honor Guard at President John F. Kennedy's Inauguration and funeral. He then met his wife, Corporal Joanne (Lindsley) Wilson while working at Quantico Marine Corp base in the Intel Division. They lived in Arlington, VA and their first child was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital (now Walter Reed) then being transferred to Camp Smith, Oahu, Hawaii. Luna, after discharge at Camp Pendleton, moved to Tacoma, WA where their second son was born. His wife grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and they divorced in 1982 and both never remarried. Joanne L. Wilson now resides in Ferndale, WA, and his siblings in Minnesota.

Surviving are his two sons, Luna Norris Wilson, III of Gilbertsville, KY and Norman Dwayne Wilson of Gilbertsville, KY; brother, Dennis Wilson of Irvington, KY; sister, Kathleen Kincaid, husband Carter of Owingsville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019, 11:00 a.m., Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, KY.

Burial with Military honors will follow.

No public visitation is scheduled.
