Mrs. Mary Alice Johnston, age 99 of Hardin, KY passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Marshall Co. Hospital in Benton, KY.
Born Friday, November 9, 1917 in Marshall Co, KY, she was the daughter of the late Other Socrates Mathis, Sr., and the late Gorda Mae (Creason) Mathis. She was the wife of the late Karl Johnston.
She was a homemaker, a retired office worker for Caterpillar in East Peoria, IL and was a member of Hardin Church of Christ.
Surviving are her sons, Dr. Timothy Charles (Jennifer) Johnston of Murray, KY and Byron Mathis "Matt" (Barbara) Johnston of East Peoria, IL, daughter, Judith (Hafford "Ed") Cook of Maricopa, AZ, sister, Gretta Morris of Murray, KY. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; Laurel, Matthew, Carter and Katey Johnston, Brian Johnston, Jennifer Englehaupt, Quintin Cook, Jana Fredericks, Gretta Roberts, Hannah Cook Cross; 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, by brothers, James M. Mathis, Dillard Mathis, Cratus Mathis and Other Socrates "Kayo" Mathis, Jr., sisters, Lucy Tolbert and Flora Ann Thweatt.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Mark Hurt will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the Union Ridge Cemetery, Aurora, KY.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Hardin Church of Christ, 156 Watkins Street, Hardin, KY 42048.
