Carol Jane Ferrell Myre gently passed from this life not long after midnight on February 7, 2016.  She was born in DeKalb, Illinois on August 12, 1927, an only child, with Irish and Scottish blood running through her veins, always surrounded by a large family of Ferrells and Cliffes in that farming community.  At age 16, she started her college education at Northern Illinois University Teachers College, but being too young to enter the NIU nursing program, she transferred to Northwestern University in Chicago, and graduated from there with a nursing degree in 1948.  At Northwestern, she met her husband of sixty years, Dr. Theodore T. Myre.  Carol and Ted were married in April of 1950.  In the ensuing years, they moved to Rochester, Minnesota; Lubbock, Texas; back to Rochester; Memphis, Tennessee; Evansville, Indiana; and then to Paducah, Kentucky where they resided together until Dr. Myre’s death in 2010.  Carol moved to Louisville in 2012.  She raised five children in Paducah: Jane Elizabeth Myre, Theodore T. Myre, Jr. (Nancie), Kathryn Myre Stewart (Dan), David Daniel Myre (Karla), and Carol Ellen Buskirk (Buzz).  She retired from nursing in 1962 and devoted most of her waking hours to her kids.  She loved tennis and gardening; and served as President of the Four Seasons, President of the Garden Club of Paducah, and Chairwoman of the Garden Club of America Zone 7.  She also served as President of the McCracken County Women’s Medical Auxiliary and was a member of the Paducah Charity League.  She loved working the polls on Election Day and was a voracious reader.  She was a longtime member of the Broadway United Methodist Church.

Carol was predeceased by her loving husband, and by her parents, Irven David Ferrell and Lillian Cliffe Ferrell.  In addition to her children and their spouses, she also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kathryn Richardson (Scott), Zach and Gabe Stewart, Charlie, Rachel and Peter Myre, and Eloise and Anabel Buskirk.  She loved them so.  Carol will be remembered for her warm heart and her frankness.  Her honesty came naturally and her motherhood was, to the very end, as good as there can be.  Well done, Carol, well done, Mom.

The family would like to express its appreciation to the nurses and attendants at the Sam Swope Care Center, to Dr. Christian Furman, to Hosparus, and to Casey and Ann and all the staff at Miralea, who became like family to her.

Visitation will be at Pearson’s in Louisville Thursday from 5-8pm.  Visitation in Paducah will take place at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah from 4:30-7:30pm (central time) Friday evening, and funeral services will be held at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Paducah on Saturday at 10:30am (with an hour visitation beforehand).
