Mary Deane Swann, 93, of Paducah, KY met the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2018.  She was surrounded by her family and the caring staff of The Lakes of Paducah, her residence for the last two and a half years and some of her happiest days.  She was their first resident and a valuable member of the welcoming committee, a suitable role considering their symbol is a swan.

Deane was born in Shelby County, TN on December 21, 1924 to Tom Frank Fowler and Lois Gray Fowler.  She was raised and graduated high school in Ripley, TN before moving to Celina, TN for work.  On her first day of work in Celina she met James H. Swann, to whom she would marry in 1942.  Their lives required moving to Nashville, Murfreesboro and Henderson before finally settling in Marshall County around 1963.  There, she ran the lake office of Roof-Swann Realtors for several years before opening her own real estate business, Deane Swann Realty.  Serving her clients and selling real estate in the Sledd Creek area was her passion.  On many occasions she included her granddaughter, Dana, on the listing and selling appointments.  Deane and Dana developed a special bond together selling homes, cooking meals, and most of all building a relationship with everyone.  Deane was outgoing and had the distinct ability to make everyone feel comfortable.  She was a member of the Marshall County Board of Realtors and Calvert City Church of Christ.  After moving to Paducah, she attended Broadway Church of Christ.  Deane was an avid reader, enjoyed being on and around the lake, and making friends.

Surviving are her son, Dwight (Sandy) Swann of Lone Oak; granddaughter, Dana A. (Butch) Marshall of Lone Oak; brother, Robert E. Fowler of Gleason, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Swann; two brothers, Thomas Frank “Bud” Fowler and Harold Vester Fowler; and her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at The Lakes of Paducah with Dr. Charles Moore officiating.  Visitation will begin at 10:30 Tuesday. A reception will follow the service.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Fitzgerald Cemetery in Celina, TN.
