The game kicked off when KYPL-American’s own Tyler Belcher doubled on a 3-1 count against East, scoring Bryce Thomas and Eric Riffe. Belcher scored on a single by Braxton Zivic before East escaped the inning.
By the bottom of the second, KYPL-National tied the game at three when Tyler Wood singled on a 2-2- count to center field, scoring Logan Verble. Jackson Fitzgerald grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Riffe stayed hot into the top of the third for KYPL-American, tripling on a line drive to center field. He later scored when Belcher took off to first base on a drop third strike.
KYPL-National officially pulled away in the bottom of the third with five runs scored. Coy Burns singled on a 2-1 count, allowing Jase Felker and Cameron Dean to score. Trent Shelby singled on a 1-2 count, allowing Burns to score. Tyler Wood joined in on the fun, hitting a single back to the pitcher Dylan Schneider, scoring Jonah Brannon. Fitzgerald walked, allowing Shelby to score before the inning was complete.
KYPL-National continued to dominate against KYPL-American by scoring two more times. In the bottom of the fourth inning when Weslee Choate reached on an error and allowed Dean to score. And again, at the bottom of the fifth, when Felker hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Wood.
Gabe East earned the win for KYPL-National. East allowed three hits, four runs over three innings, and struck out five. Corbin Hayden and Burns pitched in relief of East.
Cade Duncan earned the loss of the night for KYPL-American. Duncan allowed four hits, seven runs over two innings, and struck out three.
Worth noting: KYPL-National had a total of 13 hits throughout the night. Wood, Shelby, and Brannon collected multiple hits for their team. Shelby and Wood each had three hits to lead their team to victory. Belcher led his KYPL-American team with two hits in four at-bats.
