Kentucky junior defensive end Denzil Ware was named Southeastern Conference Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. It's the second this season and third career weekly league honor for him.

Ware was a thorn in Vanderbilt's side in Kentucky's 44-21 victory in Nashville over the weekend. The Opp, Alabama native recorded three tackles, two of which were quarterbacks sacks – tying a career high - and another that stopped the Commodores for no gain. Ware also recorded his first career interception, alertly tracking a pass batted at the line of scrimmage by teammate Adrian Middleton and hauling it in for one of the Wildcats' four interceptions in the game.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder continues to be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks, counting 6.5 sacks and 9.0 tackles for loss among his 38 total tackles. On the season he's added an interception, a pass breakup, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned 20 yards for a touchdown in the opener at Southern Miss. He also was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for that performance.

For his career, Ware has 147 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. He was named Preseason All-SEC Second Team by both the media and the league's coaches heading into the 2017 season.
