Vogt chose NKU over his other three finalists, Kent State, Ball State and Samford.
“It's a chance for me to play basketball in-state and I feel like there's a chance for early playing time,” Vogt said. “It's not too far from home and they just moved to Division 1, so hopefully I'll get a chance to play in the NCAA tournament. I felt a connection with the coaching staff and they showed the most interest in me throughout the whole recruiting process.”
In all, Vogt collected 15 college offers. He said he wanted to go ahead and commit early so he could focus on
his senior season at Graves County. Vogt said he enjoyed the recruiting
process but it was humbling and overwhelming at times.
"It was a long process and I learned a lot," Vogt said. "I'm glad it's over. I want to thank all the coaches and schools that recruited me."
Vogt, considered at 3-star prospect by recruiting site 247Sports, averaged 17 points, 9.6 rebounds
and 5.8 blocks per game as a junior, leading the Eagles to last
year's regional semifinals. He set a state record for most blocked
shots in a season with 190. He also tied a state record for most
blocks in a game with his 17-block performance against Webster
County.
"This is a great day for Chris and for our basketball program," said Graves County head coach Josh Frick. "All of the work that Chris has put in has brought him to this point and I couldn't be more excited for him and his family."
NKU is located in Highland Heights, KY, seven miles southeast of downtown Cincinnati, OH. In August of this year, NKU's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics was granted active status as a Division 1 institution by the NCAA. With active status, NKU is now a full Division 1 member, which means NKU's student-athletes can compete for berths into NCAA championships.
NKU joined the Horizon League in 2015 after leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference.
