Mayfield High School is searching for a new girls basketball coach.
According to MHS Athletic Director Joe Morris, the school parted ways with Misty Lawson last month. Lawson took over the program in 2009. During her seven-year tenure as head coach, the Lady Cardinals went 69-110, making two regional tournament appearances (2013 & 2016).
"We want to thank Misty for her years of service to the Mayfield girls basketball program," Morris said. "We appreciate all her hard work. But we felt like it was time to go in a different direction."
Morris said the school has already started interviewing candidates and he hopes to have the new coach in place by the end of this week or early next week. He said Lawson will continue to teach special education at Mayfield Elementary School.
