Kaiya Sheron threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tate Madden on the final play of the game as Somerset beat Mayfield 34-31 in Saturday’s Class 2A championship game at Kroger Field in Lexington.

The Briar Jumpers (14-1) trailed the Cardinals (13-2) 31-28 with 2 second left in the game and the ball on the Mayfield 35 yard line. Sheron's pass into the endzone was broken up, but Mayfield was called for defensive pass interference.

On the next play, an untimed down from the 20 yard line, Sheron found Madden for the game-winning score.

Sheron finished 10 of 15 for 175 yards. Jase Bruner rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown, and Mikey Garland added three rushing touchdowns.

Mayfield’s Jayden Stinson completed 15 of 17 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Kylan Galbreath rushed 25 times for 159 yards and a score.
