It took an extra inning, but the McCracken County Lady Mustangs are state champs.

Bailey Vick scored on Keely Barnes' RBI double in the bottom of the 8th inning as McCracken County (37-3) beat Louisville Male (38-9) 2-1 in Saturday's championship game at the KHSAA Fast Pitch Softball State Tournament at Jack Fisher Park in Owensboro. It's McCracken's first state softball title in the school's short two-year history.

A suicide squeeze put Male ahead 1-0 in the top of the sixth inning. But McCracken tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an error by Male shortstop Maddie Mudd. The game went into extra innings when Rachel Ridolfi grounded out to third with the bases loaded. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Vick singled up the middle, setting up Barnes' game-winning hit, a double to right field.

It was McCracken's third win over Male this season. The Lady Mustangs beat them 3-0 in March and beat them 8-1 on Friday.

Vick finished 2-for-5 for McCracken County. Kelsee Henson went 2-for-3. Kaylyn Telfar was 2-for-4. Audrey Dodd went the distance for the Lady Mustangs, giving up 1 run on 6 hits with 12 strikeouts.

The Lady Mustangs finished the year on a 28-game winning streak and allowed only eight runs in five state tournament games.

Hannah Ridolfi and Henson were named to the All-Tournament Team. Dodd was named the Tournament MVP. Vick received the Sportsmanship Award.
