More than 600 Jeeps and more than 2000 people climbed the hill to the Bald Knob Cross of Peace for their annual blessing event on Saturday.
Drivers rolled in beginning at 6 a.m. for blessing prayers at 9:30 a.m. and noon, plus food trucks, merchandise and collector’s items.
Last year about 300 Jeeps made the trek. Last month, Bald Knob's annual Blessing of the Bikes drew more than 2500 motorcycles to the cross.
Alto Pass is located in Union County, about five miles northwest of Cobden. The 111-foot tall cross has been a landmark since 1963, and a meeting place for dozens of local organizations and casual visitors.
It's also famous for its annual Easter sunrise services, of which the 90th annual was celebrated this spring.
