A 19-year-old mother and her son died in a house fire on Monday morning in Graves County.
A 911 call came in just after 1:15 a.m. Monday about a home on Central Road being on fire. Five people were reportedly in the home at the time the blaze broke out. When Graves County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found three of the individuals outside the home, but were told that two more were still inside. The two, 19-year-old Arianna Teems and her 7-month-old son Cole Walker, were reportedly in the upstairs portion of the house.
Two Graves County deputies, Andrew Prusaczyk and Austin Ramage, tried to get inside the house using pry bars and a sledgehammer, but were not able to get in, as the home was fully engulfed.
Fire departments from Wingo, Sedalia, and Cuba, plus the Mayfield-Graves Fire and Rescue Squad, fought the fire for several hours before they could extinguish it. The bodies of Teems and Walker were located just before 6 a.m.
The Graves County Coroner’s Office and the Kentucky State Fire Marshals’ Office have both been on the scene. The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
