Car crashes into McCracken school bus

A car struck a McCracken County school bus with 27 children aboard on Wednesday afternoon.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office reports they were called around 2:40 pm to the 3300 block of Olivet Church Road, near the intersection with Pace Drive, for a two vehicle crash.

Their investigation determined that a vehicle driven by 48-year-old Leroy Smith, of Kevil, struck the school bus in the rear as it was stopped while unloading children. The Sheriff's Office determined that all the safety functions on the bus to notify traffic that the bus was stopped, which included red flashing stop lights, a stop arm, and a stop sign, were deployed and working properly.

One injury on the bus was reported, and Smith was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was also cited to court for reckless driving.
