McCracken County Judge-Executive Craig Clymer will ask the City of Paducah for a street name change to honor a former Deputy Judge.

A resolution was on the agenda at last night’s McCracken County Fiscal Court meeting that would allow Clymer to go before the City of Paducah with the request. According to that request, the County will ask for Downs Drive to be renamed Steve Doolittle Drive.

Doolittle passed away on August 25th.

Doolittle’s career serving Paducah and McCracken County began fresh out of Southern Illinois University as an intern. He worked his way through city government to serve as City Planning Director, Director of Inspections, and Director of Human Resources. He was also the Executive Director of the Paducah Riverfront Development Authority.

Beginning in 2000, Doolittle took over as the McCracken County Administrator. He served in that position for seven years. He became the Deputy Judge-Executive in 2019.

What is currently known as Downs Drive would be one of two entrances to the Paducah Sports Park and is directly across Park Avenue from 32nd Street, next to Watermark Honda.
