Driver dodging checkpoint charged with DUI in Lyon County

A driver trying to dodge a safety checkpoint is facing DUI and other charges out of Lyon County.

Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky State Police were operating the checkpoint along US 62 just after 9 p.m. Thursday when an approaching vehicle made a quick U-turn in the middle of the road. Then fled down Pleasant Valley Road at what was described as a high rate of speed. The driver, identified as 59-year-old Robert L. Amburgey of Eddyville, crashed his vehicle and was arrested.

Amburgey was charged with DUI, fleeing or evading, and reckless driving, plus a host of traffic violations. He had to be medically cleared at a hospital before he could be booked into the Crittenden County Detention Center.
