The future of the Riherd's/KHSAA score and other websites is up in the air following a weekend announcement the site owner has been diagnosed with ALS.
Frank Riherd said in an post on the website over the weekend he would no longer be able to operaate it after June 30.
Since the inception of the boys’ basketball scoreboard in 1997 through a partnership with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, Riherd expanded the software to include football, girls’ basketball, volleyball, girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, baseball, softball, field hockey, and lacrosse.
The website includes scores of over 650,000 games and statistics of teams and athletes as entered by the schools. It has been hailed as one of the top high school sports databases and websites in the nation.
However, in 2024 the KHSAA struck a five year deal with ArbiterSports allowing it to become the internal software system of all athletic aspects including scores and schedules. It has not been a well received system by school athletic directors and coaches because of extra steps in entering information.
Riherd also said in his statement, “I do not yet know how the KHSAA will replace the Scoreboard. The same applies to the iPhone app. I hope the vendor they find shares my penchant for detail and ‘getting it right.’”
