As of Wednesday, some types of e-bikes are now welcome in Land Between the lakes.
According to the USDA Forest Service notice, all trails currently designated for non-motorized bicycle use have opened to Class-1 vehicles until further notice. LBL staff will be working to update signage at the trailheads.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture and Forest Service defines permitted ebikes as two-wheeled vehicles equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts.
Class 1 e-bikes provide motor assistance only when the rider is pedaling and stop assisting at 20 miles per hour.
Class 2 and 3 e-bikes are not permitted at this time.
According to the Forest Service, helmet use is generally recommended for riders.
Visit LBL's trails page to see where the approved biking trails are located.
