A Louisville area man is in jail following a multi-county pursuit through western Kentucky.

Just after 9 p.m. Sunday, a Kentucky State Police Trooper tried to stop a vehicle in Wickliffe after noticing an equipment violation. When the trooper hit his lights, the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Damon L. Crawford of Shively, refused to stop and fled along KY 286 at high speed. The trooper pursued Crawford through Ballard and into McCracken County along US 62. Two attempts at using spike strips, one on US 62 at North Gum Springs Road and the other near I-24, were able to deflate two of the vehicle’s tires. However, Crawford entered I-24 and continued east toward Marshall County.

With KSP troopers and deputies from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office in tow, Calvert City Police used spike strips again near the 24-mile marker to deflate the remaining two tires on Crawford’s car. He continued on briefly before a trooper used a PIT maneuver. The move forced Crawford off the road and into an embankment, where he was finally arrested.

Crawford was charged with fleeing or evading police, speeding, reckless driving, and other traffic offenses. He was booked into the Marshall County Detention Center.
