Man arrested after pulling apparent pistol on Graves deputy

A Graves County man was arrested on Friday after he appeared to pull a gun on a Graves County deputy, which turned out to be a BB pistol.

On Friday afternoon, a Graves County Deputy went to a residence on Pritchett Road on a report of harassment of a female subject. The suspect, 38-year-old Kyle D. Staples came to the door and initially gave a false name. 

Once his true identity was confirmed, the deputy learned that Staples was wanted on an active felony arrest warrant out of Fulton County. 

The deputy's body cam video confirms that when the deputy made Staples aware of the warrant, Staples stated that he was not going to jail, and pulled what appeared to be a semi automatic handgun from his pocket. 

There was a brief standoff before Staples threw the handgun to the ground and surrendered. Once Staples was taken into custody, the handgun was recovered and it was found to be a BB pistol.

When Sheriff Jon Hayden and Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince arrived on scene, Staples reportedly told Sheriff Hayden that he was trying to get the deputy to shoot him, but realized who the deputy was from previous encounters, adding that the deputy had always "treated him right," and that he didn't want to do that to him. 

Staples was charged with theft of identity, menacing, and resisting arrest. He was also arrested on the Fulton County felony warrant. Staples has previous convictions for burglary, theft of a firearm, and terroristic threatening.
