The proposed Metropolis Industrial Park has been named to receive another round of development funding from the state of Illinois.

In a news release from the organization Southern Illinois Now, it was announced that Metropolis will get a share of more than $2 million from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Ecomonmic Opportunity.

Southern Illinois Now was awarded a site readiness planning grant of more than $117,000, which, together with matching funds, would be an investment of more than $147,000. The money will be used to fund the development of a comprehensive master plan for the 113-acre Metropolis Industrial Park, and for boundary and topographic surveys on 125 acres east of Harrisburg.

A portion will also help pay for consulting services to establish a Foreign Trade Zone in Southern Illinois.

Earlier in April, the DCEO also awarded $4.8 million for the Metropolis Industrial Park to build out its infrastructure including wastewater and utility upgrades, and new reinforced concrete streets.
