At their latest monthly construction meeting, the City of Mayfield received an update on the progress of their new city hall and police department.
During her "Mayfield Minute" podcast, Mayor Kathy O'Nan reported that the new buildings are now estimated to be completed by mid-May of 2027. Ground was broken on the new city hall in October of 2024.
This follows the completion of the city's new fire station in April.
Most of Mayfield's downtown infrastructure was destroyed in the 2021 tornado that claimed 24 lives. O'Nan stated that at no other time in Kentucky history has a city lost every one of its municipal buildings.
O'Nan said that she is working with county judge-elect Tom Hayden to plan a memorial observance of the 5th anniversary of the tornado to be held in December.
