Paducah Power System hit a milestone with giving at this year’s Christmas in the Park.

The company said in a statement that over the course of the event’s 29-year history, they have now raised more than a million dollars for charitable organizations in the area. This year’s event drew over 48,000 pounds of canned goods and almost $47,000. The majority of those donations came as a result of the school challenge taken up each year at the light display in Noble Park.

The Director of Human Resources and Community Relations for Paducah Power System, Andrea Underwood, said, “The one-million-dollar milestone is symbolic of the way this community takes care of its friends and neighbors, year after year. We are humbled and grateful for the way hundreds of volunteers have worked together, every year, for 29 years, to create an event that helps those in need, and enhances the holiday experience for people.”

PPS noted that the amount of canned goods was down from previous years, but the cash donations were the fifth highest overall. The proceeds were shared among the Family Service Society, Paducah Cooperative Ministry, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and the Salvation Army.
