Second phase of I-24 construction in Christian County begins Thursday

If you've traveled I-24 to Nashville recently, you probably know there has been construction work in Christian County.  The second phase of that project begins Thursday.

WKDZ reported the second phase, just like the first, will bring a shift in traffic.  Westbound traffic will again be reduced to one lane before crossing the median and moving onto the eastbound side of the interstate.

The new configuration will begin near the Kentucky 115 exit in Oak Grove and extend west to the Fort Campbell Boulevard exit. The traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until November.

Crews will remove both westbound lanes and rebuild the highway from the base up.  State highway officials said the current concrete pavement has been patched and repaired over the years, but it's now to the point of needing a complete reconstruction.

The second phase of I-24 construction is part of a $25 million project.
