Severe thunderstorms bloomed out of Tuesday's extreme heat and caused sporadic damage across the region, according to reports sent to the National Weather Service.
The stage was set with 98-degree highs in Paducah and Cape Girardeau, tying the date's all-time high for both cities.
The storms first formed in Missouri. At 2 p.m. a portion of a tree and alarge amount of corn was blown down by 60-mph gusts north of Cape Girardeau.
A drive in movie screen was damaged near Van Buren. A garage door was blown off in Poplar Bluff, and there was damage to fences, playground sets and shingles elsewhere in Butler County.
A tree also fell across a road in southern Illinois near Elizabethtown.
By 5 p.m. as hail fell in Graves County, a tree came down on a house southeast of Folsomdale, and another fell across KY 1241.
