Mayfield Middle School and Wingo Elementary School will host two important classes next month regarding safety during severe weather outbreaks.

The National Weather Service in Paducah will provide information regarding severe weather safety and Skywarn spotter training. Both classes are free; however, pre-registration is required.

The severe weather safety class will be held Monday, February 5, at Mayfield Middle School, beginning at 6 p.m. The class will last approximately 90 minutes and address safety tips in severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, lightning, flash flooding and other weather events.

The Skywarn spotter training will be held Tuesday, February 6, at Wingo Elementary at 6 p.m. This class, to become an official NWS Skywarn spotter, will last approximately two and a half hours and provide information on various forms of weather and how to report incidents.

To register for the severe weather safety class, email Christine Wielgos with the National Weather Service at christine.wielgos@noaa.gov. To register for the Skywarn spotter training class, go online to www.weather.gov/pah/spottertraining.

These classes are part of the community education program for Graves County and Mayfield Independent school systems.
