The Lyon County Sheriff's  and other offices are seeking the public's assistance in identifying individuals involved in recent thefts of telecommunications wire and equipment.

Deputies have recently responded to several reports involving stolen telephone wiring and thefts near cell tower sites. Lyon County has already charged two persons, with more charges pending.

Authorities said the incidents have also reportedly occurred in Caldwell, Trigg, Christian, Hopkins and Webster counties.

Damaging or stealing communications infrastructure can disrupt essential services, including residents' ability to contact emergency responders via 9-1-1.

AT&T has established a tip line for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for damaging, destroying, or stealing communications equipment. A reward of up to $10,000 may be available.

If you observe suspicious activity near telecommunications equipment, do not approach or confront anyone.

Note the location, vehicle description, license plate, and direction of travel when it is safe to do so, and then contact local law enforcement. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies or crimes in progress.
