Traffic stop results in crash and drug arrest for Benton man

A traffic stop on Friday resulted in a crash and a drug arrest for a Benton man.

Benton Police attempted to stop a vehicle just before 5 p.m. Friday on Mayfield Highway just west of downtown. The officer said that when he turned on his lights, the driver reportedly ran off the road, dodged mailboxes and structures, crossed the road again, and crashed into the front yard of a home.

The officer is said to have spotted used syringes in the vehicle driven by 21-year-old Dylan Agin of Benton. He also allegedly located syringes in Agin’s pockets and socks. Agin was also determined to be under the influence. The contents of the syringes reportedly field-tested as methamphetamine.

Agin was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and not wearing a seat belt.
