A traffic stop Wednesday on I-24 resulted in the arrest of a wanted man in the US illegally.
A McCracken County Sheriff's deputy spotted a vehicle traveling around 85 miles per hour through the reduced speed zone between the Ohio River Bridge and the seven-mile marker. The deputy also said the driver was driving aggressively by rapidly changing lanes and tailgating other vehicles.
Once stopped, the driver, later identified as 41-year-old Bogdan Drapac of Sacramento, California, gave the deputy a driver's license from another country and a passport as identification. The Sheriff's Office said the deputy became suspicious the documents were forged.
Drapac was arrested on the traffic violations and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail. Deputies were then able to confirm with the Department of Homeland Security that the ID and passport were forged.
DHS determined Drapac is in the US illegally and is wanted in Romania. They said he is also wanted in Texas and California on fraudulent credit card charges.
Homeland Security is detaining Drapac on an immigration hold. He's also charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, giving officers false identifying information, and a host of traffic violations.
