The Federal Emergency Management Agency granted Graves County over $4.5 million in reimbursement for work done to rebuild and strengthen the county's storage building destroyed during the 2021 tornado.

The funds will go to reimburse the county for the demolition and rebuilding of the 15,000-square-foot, three-story building. The plan is for the building to be restored to its pre-tornado functions while updating and strengthening it to mitigate the possibility of damage from a potential future storm.

The funds are part of the FEMA Public Assistance program which works with state and local governments and certain non-profits to allow for quick response and disaster recovery.

The money approved will cover a 90%-10% split for costs associated with recovery, meaning the federal government would cover 90% of costs, with the state picking up the other 10%.
