The former Murray Independent School District teacher arrested last week on rape and child abuse charges made a court appearance Tuesday morning.

The Murray Ledger and Times reported Jason Shelby waived formar arraignment during a hearing in Calloway District Court.  He resigned from his position at Murray High School in 2018 after allegations surfaced, but criminal charges were not brought at that time.

The charges were announced by Kentucky State Police last Friday after a former student came forward last month.

As previously reported, allegations against Shelby dated as far back as 2005.  The current charges are based on recent statements from a victim who said she had relations with Shelby while a student at Murray High in 2008 and 2009.
