#171 This is the sixth year for the Wastelanders to host its annual New Year's Eve Art Exhibition and party from 6-9 pm at the Yeiser Art Center, 200 Broadway, in downtown Paducah.
A group of regional artists who are either native to or long time residents of the Paducah area, get together each year to celebrate friendships and their art. It's also the opening reception of the Wastelander's two day exhibit. The artists and their friends/fans, etc, will gather to celebrate the year and share their creations. Music for the evening will be by Nathan Lynn. You'll notice that the party ends before typical New Year's Eve festivities begin......there's a reason for that. The artisits all have plans for bringing in the new year but they totally enjoy their time and art together, wrapping up another year. The past five events have been like a homecoming of sorts, with some of Paducah's most creative and fun people.

#166 Need something cool to do with friends and family the day after Christmas? Hope the weather won't keep you from this awesome 3-D paper art installation by Artist in Residence Vivian Kim from New York this afternoon at A.I.R. Studio, 621 Madison, from 4-7.
The Paducah Arts Alliance (PAA) is pleased to announce that painter, paper and fiber artist Vivian Hyelim Kim, a Korean native currently living in New York will present her colorful intricate paper patterned 3-D installation at A.I.R. Studio, 621 Madison Street in the LowerTown Arts District on this afternoon beginning at 4.
“Vivian Hyelim Kim’s artwork dangles from ceilings, sticks to windows and covers floors. Using intricate patterns, she creates installations made from hundreds of pieces of colorful paper, each cut into circular designs. When she’s done, a room feels like a wonderland covered in odd paper snowflakes,” said iList Paducah writer Casey Northcutt. “As of Dec. 11, she has partially covered the studio’s front windows with paper cutouts and she has created designs along one wall with pastels and stencils.”

#162 The Paducah Chamber Music Society has organized area singers and choirs to join together in a special community-wide holiday performance of "The Messiah" tonight at 7 at Heartland Worship Center, 4777 Alben Barkley Drive (across from West KY Community and Technical College).
The ultimate classical composition celebrates the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Handel’s Messiah and its “Hallelujah Chorus” have become a Christmas tradition for all Christians. #152 The "Almost Annual Christmas and Festival of Lights Bike Ride", organized by BikeWorld, is tonight.
Meet in the BikeWorld parking lot and slowly, leisurely parade to and then through the Noble Park light display. Riders of all ages and riding abilities will find this a leisurely and fun time. Those who want more lights and a longer ride will take a longer route.
Dress warmly and be sure to wear your helmet and have a front light and rear flasher on your bike. And please bring a food donation or some cash to leave at the Santa House on the ride thru Noble Park. It's the theme of the season to bless those who are less fortunate.
Everyone will meet back at BikeWorld afterward for hot spiced drinks, finger food, visiting with riders and families, and the presentation of presents. To encourage you to help make the season bright with a lighted bike or to deck the bike with boughs of holly, they’ll select the riders with the “Best Light Display,” the “Best Bike Decoration” and the “Best Holiday Attire” and present a new bicycle toy, a sackful of joy. #151 Each year the Yeiser Art Center Members' Show highlights a diverse group of talents from members on this non-juried selection.
This show is one of our most anticipated exhibitions of the year. The Yeiser Art Center and Gift Shop are open 10 am – 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday
If you have a group, it's best to call a couple of weeks in advance to be sure they gallery isn't setting up or taking down exhibits or that otheres are scheduled at time you are hoping to visit. The Yeiser is free and open to the public, though but they welcome and depend on the generous donations from visitors.

#150 Take a couple of hours out of your busy schedule and visit an assisted living or nursing home. What a blessing you will be and what a terrific feeling of joy and appreciation you will have!
An example and invitation from the staff at a local senior home is The Legacy Personal Care Home. Their seniors love visitors of all ages during the holidays, and afterward when the festivities have calmed down and everyone else is back to their normal routine, your visits are also appreciated. All you have to do is show up and share a story or song. Laugh and listen and give your gift of time and attention. It's a heart-warming experience for everyone!

#149 Santa's popping up all around town this time of year. Today he will be welcoming children at the gazebo at 2nd and Broadway from noon - 4 pm.
He is all ears to hear Chirstmas wishes from children (1 to 92). Bring your camera to capture their magical time together. When he's not there, his mailbox is and you can leave your list. He checks it regularly. Pepsi MidAmerica “Be Merry” Truck is parked right by Santa's fireplace and volunteers are offering free hot chocolate and coffee to visitors while Santa is there. If you make a donation, it will benefit local non-profits.

#148 Start the morning with a brisk run to benefit the Arthritis Foundation...it's the Jingle Bell Run at Noble Park. If you didn't plan ahead and were concerned about the weather, it's looking good. You can show up and register from 7:30-8:45 am, Costume Contest Judging from 8-10 am, the Jingle Bell Run/Walk 5K at 9 am, and the 1-mile Candy Cane Trot at 10 am. The Award Ceremony is at 10:30 am. If you've never experienced a quarter auction, it's bunch of fun and you get fantastic deals. It's a benefit within the holiday bazaar in which a group of distributors (Mary Kay, Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef, Fox Fotography, etc.) gathers their products together and raffles them off for quarters. While you're out and about, take a toy to one of the local Walmarts and help with the “Fill the Truck” Toy Drive from 9 am - 5 pm. Support The Salvation Army initiative to help provide a cheerful Christmas for local children. Walmart and The Salvation Army have partnered for more than 30 years to help support people in need.
The "Affordable Art Show" is also going on again today from noon - 9 pm at Studio Miska, 627 Madison; A.I.R. Studio, 621 Madison and Stamper House, 334 N 8th & Madison.
The annual Christmas presentation by The Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Paducah Symphony Chorus, the PSO Children/Youth Choruses, plus a guest performance by local saxophonist, Reggie Lafaye will be playing to a full house tonight. Extra seats have been added to accomodate the crowd. As of Friday afternoon only a dozen tickets remained. #156 Lots going on around town this evening: A Lourdes Auxiliary Christmas tradition gets underway at 5:30 pm celebrating the beginning of Advent with the annual tree lighting service in the chapel. This year’s event will feature Paducah Tilghman’s girls choir, Concordia, arts and crafts for children, card making for Lourdes patients and the military, and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public. After the ceremony, the winners of the Festival of Trees will be announced. More than 23 Christmas trees will be given away. Money raised from the Festival of Trees will benefit the Lourdes Associates Christmas Giving program and the Women’s Center.
Then head to the library for "Kentucky and Tennessee: The Best of Neighbors" with Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham starting at 7 pm. Cunningham will discuss aspects of the shared history and other commonalities of Kentucky and Tennessee, dating back to the creation of the two states.
Justice Cunningham has authored seven books on regional history including On Bended Knee, Castle, Children of Promise and Flames In The Wind. He was named the Robert Penn Warren Western Kentucky Writer of the Decade in 2011. Elected to the state's highest court in November 2006, Justice Cunningham previously served as Circuit Judge for 15 years and commonwealth's attorney for Caldwell, Livingston, Lyon, and Trigg countries for 12 years. He was also the city attorney for Eddyville and served as a public defender for the Kentucky State Penitentiary. He is a U.S. Army veteran and served in Vietnam, Korea and Germany. #155 For the third year in a row, Lourdes partners with Paducah Power System for its annual Stuff-The-Truck holiday food drive today from 7 am - 6 pm.
Our own Greg Dunker will be live from the truck this morning from 7-9 am. Come by and he will give you a WKYX travel mug just to say thanks for donating to this worthy cause. They will be collecting non-perishable canned goods or dry goods for area food pantries. You can also make a cash donation that will be used to purchase more food. The semi trailer is parked in front of Lourdes with all donations being divided among the food pantries at Family Service Society, Paducah Cooperative Ministry and the Salvation Army. Last year’s Stuff-The-Truck donations yielded 17,104 pounds of food.

#154 Take non-perishable food to Western Baptist Hospital's Imaging Center parking lot today. Greg Dunker will be there doing his morning talk radio show until 9 am and the WBH staff and Andrea Underwood with Paducah Power System will man the truck the rest of the day. Drive by, drop off food or donations.
“Stuff the truck” food drive is going on in the Baptist Imaging Center parking lot, opposite the parking garage at 27th and Kentucky, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Hospital employees have collected canned goods for months in preparation for the food drive. Last year, Western Baptist staff and the community collected nearly 15,000 pounds of food. Food will be donated to Paducah Power’s Christmas in the Park project for food pantries at The Salvation Army, Paducah Cooperative Ministry and Family Service Society.

The Paducah Symphony Youth Orchestra holds its Winter Concert this afternoon at 2 pm in the Paducah Tilghman High School Auditorium. The PSYO is comprised of area musicians from McCracken and Graves Counties, with an advanced orchestra conducted by Doug Van Fleet for high school aged students, and a preparatory orchestra, Sinfonia, conducted by Patricia Story.
