A series of crashes blocked all of US 60 just east of Ledbetter on Monday morning.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the first crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. when a pickup driven by 62-year-old Kenneth Maxey of Grand Rivers ran into the back of a truck driven by 21-year-old William Smith of Burna. Maxey, Smith, and his passenger, 21-year-old Alesa Smith of Paducah, were not hurt in the initial collision.

Maxey’s truck was damaged enough that it couldn’t be moved off the road under its own power. Minutes later, as Maxey was attempting to direct traffic before deputies arrived, a car driven by 62-year-old Cynthia Walker of Smithland ran into the back of Maxey’s truck. Walker was injured and transported to Baptist Health in Paducah.

Then, a car traveling in the opposite direction, driven by 34-year-old Johnathan Collins of Paducah, ran through the debris from the earlier crashes and sideswiped Maxey’s disabled truck.

Deputies said all three crashes happened in less than the ten minutes it took responders to get to the scene near US 60 and Gillahan Road. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes to clear the scene.
